Did he have to grab Pipsqueak? No; no he didn’t. He was just heading for a waterfall that would surely have killed him if not seriously wounded him. Suddenly he’s hurling through the sky with a tiny bar-ba-loot and no doubt heading for a nasty landing. 

Would anyone else go to the trouble of grabbing the little animal out of the air like that? He had his hands and arms already stretched out to make a grab for little Pipsqueak. Then not only that, he holds him to his chest like a parent would to a child, protecting Pipsqueak with his own body, readying for a landing that is no doubt gonna hurt like Hell.

Which explains why later Pipsqueak is so taken with Once-ler. He saved his life, didn’t he? You see him hugging off Once-ler’s legs, hiding behind him, dancing in celebration for him and mimicking his movements. Which ultimately makes the betrayl of Once-ler becoming the money mogul he was, destroying Pipsqueak’s home, all the more painful for the little bear.

I mean jeeze. You saw his little face at the end when Once-ler last sees him? Total and utter heart break for the poor little bear. Once-ler saved his life, he loved him and adored him only to be betrayed in the most painful way.

Poor little Pipsqueak.

I noticed this the first time too when i saw the moive. this part made me love him even more :)
